INDIAN WELLS: Jannik Sinner of Italy and Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus both captured their maiden Indian Wells titles on Sunday, following intense finals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in California.
Sinner overcame Russia's Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, winning 7-6(8/6), 7-6(7/4). The Italian delivered a commanding performance, recording 28 winners, 10 aces, and converting all eight of his net approaches. With this victory, Sinner became only the third player in history to secure all six ATP Masters 1000 hard-court titles, joining the ranks of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
This triumph marks Sinner's first title of the year. He is the first player since 1990 to win consecutive Masters 1000 titles without dropping a set. Sinner has now extended his winning streak in Masters 1000 events to 11 matches, a run that began with his Paris title last November.
On the women's side, Aryna Sabalenka claimed her first Indian Wells trophy after a dramatic three-set battle against Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina. Sabalenka saved a match point before securing a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(8/6) victory. The match was played under the California desert sun and kept spectators on the edge of their seats.
Both Sinner and Sabalenka's victories mark significant milestones in their careers, as they add the prestigious Indian Wells titles to their achievements. The tournament, often referred to as the 'fifth Grand Slam', saw both champions display resilience and skill throughout their respective finals.
