Medvedev ends Alcaraz’s winning run to reach Indian Wells final against Sinner

Indian Wells: Daniil Medvedev brought an end to Carlos Alcaraz’s 11-match winning streak with a straight-sets victory at the BNP Paribas Open, securing his place in the final against Jannik Sinner.

Medvedev, the world number four, defeated defending champion Alcaraz 7-6(3), 6-3 in the semi-final on Saturday. With this win, Medvedev avenged his loss to Alcaraz in last year’s Indian Wells final. The Russian player displayed strong baseline play and consistent serving throughout the match, breaking Alcaraz’s serve twice in the second set to seal the victory.

Alcaraz, who had not lost a match since February and was aiming to defend his Indian Wells title, struggled to find his rhythm against Medvedev’s deep returns and tactical play. The Spaniard had previously beaten Medvedev in the 2023 final, but was unable to repeat that performance this year.

Medvedev will now face Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the championship match. Sinner reached the final after a straight-sets win over Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open semi-finals earlier this year and has maintained strong form throughout the tournament. The Indian Wells final is set to be a highly anticipated clash between two of the top players on the ATP Tour.
