Landslide blocks main road and disrupts power supply in Chitral’s Rumbur Valley

CHITRAL: A significant landslide struck the Sheikhande area of Rumbur Valley, Chitral, blocking the main local road and causing major disruptions for residents. The incident occurred when a sudden movement of earth sent large boulders and debris onto the roadway, completely halting vehicular traffic in the area.

The landslide also inflicted damage on the channel and transmission lines of the local power station, resulting in a suspension of electricity supply throughout the region. According to local residents, the absence of government machinery and personnel forced them to begin clearing stones and debris themselves in an effort to reopen the road. However, they reported limited progress due to the sheer size of the boulders involved.

Residents expressed frustration over the situation, highlighting that the road closure has created difficulties for patients and travelers, and has led to a shortage of food items in the area. They have called on the district administration and government authorities to urgently send heavy machinery and technical teams to clear the blocked road and repair the damaged power infrastructure.

Meanwhile, assistant commissioner Riaz Ahmed conducted inspections of various markets in Chitral city on Monday to monitor the quality, prices, and weights of goods being sold.
