Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that Karachi will see major infrastructure improvements by 2026, with over 1,000 development projects underway and significant investment from both KMC and the Sindh government.

KARACHI: Mayor Murtaza Wahab announced on Saturday that Karachi is set to experience substantial improvements in its infrastructure by the end of 2026. Speaking at a press conference held at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) headquarters, Mayor Wahab detailed the progress and scope of ongoing and planned development projects throughout the city.
According to Mayor Wahab, more than 1,000 development schemes are currently underway. These include the construction of new roads, underpasses, and bridges, as well as upgrades to the drainage system and enhancements to the water supply network. He emphasized that these initiatives are part of a comprehensive plan to address the city's longstanding infrastructure challenges.
The mayor stated that the KMC alone is allocating Rs67 billion for development projects in the current year. In addition to KMC's efforts, the Sindh government is also investing in infrastructure through the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) and the Safe City project, which aims to bolster security measures across Karachi.
Mayor Wahab reiterated his earlier commitment, saying, “I made the announcement at the beginning of this year that 2026 would be the year of completion of development projects in Karachi and now, work on the ground is progressing at a steady pace.” He provided an overview of the various initiatives, highlighting the collaborative efforts between municipal and provincial authorities to ensure timely completion.
The mayor's remarks come as part of a broader effort to keep the public informed about the city's development trajectory. He assured citizens that the ongoing projects would significantly enhance Karachi's infrastructure and improve the quality of life for its residents by the targeted completion date.
