Class 8 students in Punjab face uncertainty over annual examinations

LAHORE: Thousands of Class 8 students across Punjab are facing uncertainty regarding their annual examinations, as the Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) has yet to provide clarity on the exam schedule, according to an official report.

As per the Express Tribune, the confusion has arisen after the PEC decided to transfer the responsibility of conducting Class 8 exams to the respective District Education Authorities (DEAs). However, the DEAs have not yet finalized the arrangements or issued a clear schedule for the exams, leaving students and parents in a state of confusion.

School administrations have also expressed concern over the lack of guidance from the authorities. Many school heads have stated that they have not received any official instructions or notifications regarding the format, dates, or procedures for the upcoming examinations. This has led to difficulties in preparing students and organizing the necessary logistics for the exams.

Parents have voiced their worries about the impact of this uncertainty on their children's academic progress. Some parents are reported to have approached school administrations and education officials to seek clarification, but have not received satisfactory answers.

The report further states that the PEC had previously been responsible for conducting standardized exams for Class 5 and 8 students across Punjab. However, with the recent changes, the responsibility for organizing and conducting these exams has shifted to the district level, resulting in confusion and a lack of coordination.

Education experts have highlighted the need for timely communication and clear guidelines from the authorities to ensure that students are not adversely affected. They have called for immediate action to resolve the uncertainty and provide a clear roadmap for the conduct of Class 8 examinations in the province.
