AJK judiciary and GB government implement austerity measures following PM's directive
The AJK judiciary and GB government have announced austerity measures, including a four-day workweek and reduced fuel for official vehicles, in line with the prime minister's directives.
GILGIT/MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) judiciary and the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) government have announced the adoption of new austerity measures, in line with directives issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last Saturday.
According to an official notification from the GB Secretariat’s School Education Department, all public and private schools in Gilgit-Baltistan will observe spring holidays from March 16 to March 31. The notification further clarified that ongoing examinations will proceed as per the previously announced schedules, without interruption.
In addition to the school holidays, the GB cabinet has approved a shift to a four-day workweek for government offices, effective immediately. The new workweek will run from Monday to Thursday, with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday designated as off days. However, this adjustment will not apply to the banking sector or to essential services, which will continue to operate as usual.
These steps are part of a broader set of austerity measures introduced by the federal government. As part of these measures, a 50 percent reduction in fuel allocation for official vehicles has been mandated for the next two months. This restriction is intended to curb government expenditure and will be enforced across relevant departments.
The recent announcements by the AJK judiciary and the GB government reflect efforts to align with the federal government's policies aimed at reducing costs and promoting responsible use of public resources.
