BAJAUR: A police officer was injured after unidentified individuals threw a hand grenade at a police post in Khar tehsil of Bajaur district, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday night near the Jinnah Bus Terminal, a major transportation hub situated approximately three kilometres from Khar, the district headquarters. Israr Khan, spokesperson for the district police, stated, “One cop was slightly wounded in the attack which caused no damage to the post. Other personnel remained completely safe and secure.”
Khan further noted that while the police post itself was not damaged, a portion of a nearby hotel sustained damage as a result of the explosion. Following the attack, a team of police personnel arrived at the scene and initiated a search operation to locate those responsible for the incident.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. The incident comes amid a rise in assaults targeting law enforcement personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent weeks. Last week, a police officer was killed in a similar attack in the region.
Authorities have heightened security measures in the area and are continuing their investigation into the attack. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
