JERUSALEM: Muslim nations have strongly condemned the recent closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli authorities, expressing deep concern over the move and its implications for religious freedom.
According to an official statement, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) described the closure as a violation of international law and called for the immediate reopening of the mosque. The OIC emphasized that such actions undermine the religious rights of Muslims and threaten the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.
The statement further urged the international community to intervene and ensure that Muslim worshippers are granted unrestricted access to Al-Aqsa Mosque. The OIC reiterated its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and defending Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.
Several other Muslim-majority countries also issued statements condemning the closure. They called on Israel to respect the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque and to refrain from measures that could escalate tensions in the region.
The closure of the mosque has drawn widespread criticism from across the Muslim world, with leaders warning that such actions could have serious consequences for peace and stability in the region. The OIC and other Muslim nations have called for urgent international action to address the situation and protect the rights of worshippers.
The Al-Aqsa Mosque, located in the Old City of Jerusalem, is considered the third holiest site in Islam. It has frequently been a focal point of tensions between Israeli authorities and Palestinian worshippers.
