ECP establishes committee to propose amendments to Islamabad LG ordinance

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has constituted a five-member committee tasked with preparing proposed amendments to the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Conduct of Elections) Rules, 2015, in line with the ICT LG (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026.

According to an official notification issued on Wednesday, the committee will be chaired by Islamabad Chief Commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa. Other members include Special Secretary (Policy) ECP Zafar Iqbal Hussain, Additional Director General (LGE) ECP Ch. Nadeem Qasim, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, and an additional representative to be nominated by the Chief Commissioner.

The committee's mandate is to deliberate, finalize, and submit for approval to the Ministry of Interior several key documents. These include the notification of demarcation of Town Corporations within the Islamabad Capital Territory, the notification specifying the number of Union Councils in each Town Corporation, and the provision of authenticated maps in accordance with the demarcation notifications.

The formation of this committee is part of ongoing efforts to update and streamline the local government electoral framework for Islamabad, ensuring compliance with the latest legislative amendments. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations and finalized documents to the Ministry of Interior for further action.
