Board instructs MTIs to implement 2026 reforms, introduces grievance panels and performance monitoring
The KP Health Department's Policy Board has ordered all MTIs to enforce the 2026 reforms, including setting up grievance panels and performance monitoring systems, to improve transparency and healthcare delivery.

ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Department's Policy Board has directed all Medical Teaching Institutions (MTIs) in the province to begin implementing the reforms outlined in the Medical Teaching Institutions Reforms Act (MTIRA) 2026, according to an official statement.
The board has mandated the establishment of grievance redressal panels and the introduction of performance monitoring systems as part of the amendments to the MTIRA 2026. These measures are intended to enhance transparency and accountability within the MTIs. The reforms aim to address longstanding concerns regarding the management and operational efficiency of medical institutions across KP.
Under the new amendments, each MTI is required to set up a grievance panel to address complaints and disputes from staff and stakeholders. Additionally, the institutions must implement a performance monitoring mechanism to regularly assess the effectiveness of their services and personnel. The Policy Board emphasized that these steps are crucial for improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that MTIs operate in line with modern standards.
The board further instructed MTIs to ensure that all provisions of the amended act are enforced without delay. The reforms are part of the provincial government's ongoing efforts to strengthen the healthcare system and improve service delivery in public sector hospitals.
The Policy Board's directives follow a series of consultations and reviews aimed at identifying gaps in the current system and proposing actionable solutions. The introduction of grievance panels and performance monitoring is seen as a significant move towards institutional reform and better governance in the health sector.
