Lahore: Authorities in Lahore have sealed several private schools following complaints that they were selling stationery items to students at inflated prices.
According to officials from the district administration, the action was taken after parents reported that certain private educational institutions were compelling students to purchase stationery and notebooks from the schools themselves at rates significantly higher than those available in the market.
Deputy Commissioner Lahore Rafia Haider stated that the administration had received multiple complaints from parents regarding the issue. She said, "We received complaints that some private schools were forcing parents to buy expensive stationery from the schools. After verifying the complaints, we took action and sealed the schools involved."
Officials further explained that the schools were not only charging excessive prices but were also making it mandatory for students to buy the items from them, rather than allowing parents to purchase the required materials from outside shops. The district administration conducted raids at various locations and sealed the schools found violating regulations.
Deputy Commissioner Haider added that the administration is committed to ensuring that private schools do not exploit parents by overcharging for stationery and other educational materials. She emphasized that action would continue against any institution found involved in such practices.
Authorities have urged parents to report any similar incidents so that prompt action can be taken. The district administration has also warned private schools to adhere strictly to regulations regarding the sale of stationery and other items to students.
The crackdown is part of a broader effort by local authorities to regulate private educational institutions and protect consumers from unfair pricing practices.
