Eid ul Fitr 2026 in Pakistan expected on March 21 after 30-day Ramadan: Suparco

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has indicated that Eid ul Fitr in 2026 is likely to be observed on March 21 in Pakistan, following a 30-day month of Ramadan.

According to Suparco experts, the chances of sighting the Shawwal crescent on the evening of March 20, 2026, are minimal. As a result, Ramadan is expected to last for the full 30 days, with Eid ul Fitr being celebrated the next day, on March 21.

Suparco's forecast is based on astronomical calculations and the expected visibility of the Shawwal moon. The commission regularly provides such projections to assist the public and authorities in planning for major Islamic events. The final decision regarding the start of Eid ul Fitr, however, will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for the official moon sighting announcements in Pakistan.

Muslims across Pakistan mark Eid ul Fitr with special prayers, gatherings, and celebrations at mosques and open grounds. The festival signifies the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection for the Muslim community.

In previous years, the timing of Eid ul Fitr has varied depending on the sighting of the moon and the corresponding lunar calendar. Suparco's projections are intended to provide guidance but are subject to confirmation by religious authorities.
