BEIJING: China’s top political advisory body on Wednesday called on national political advisors to actively contribute their wisdom and efforts toward advancing Chinese modernization and ensuring a strong start to the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
Senior leaders including Xi Jinping attended the closing meeting of the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held at the Great Hall of the People.
During the meeting, several key documents were approved, including a resolution on the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, a resolution on the handling of proposals submitted since the previous annual session, a report on the examination of new proposals, and a political resolution of the fourth session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.
Addressing the gathering, CPPCC National Committee Chairman Wang Huning said members had conducted thorough deliberations on major reports during the session, including the Government Work Report and the draft outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).
He noted that members fully recognised the “extraordinary course of development” achieved over the past year and throughout the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) period, highlighting the significant progress and achievements made in the country’s economic and social development.
Wang said the session demonstrated the strong sense of responsibility among CPPCC members in fulfilling their duties to the nation and serving the people, while also showcasing the vitality and strengths of China’s socialist consultative democracy.
Focus on implementation of 15th Five-Year Plan
Wang emphasised that the CPPCC must continue to play its role as a specialised consultative body by uniting political parties, organisations and people from all ethnic groups and sectors participating in the CPPCC.
He said the body should work to build consensus, pool public support and gather collective wisdom to ensure the steady implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan.
Calling on members to focus their efforts on the country’s central development priorities, Wang urged them to conduct forward-looking research on major economic and social issues and present constructive proposals to support policymaking.
He also stressed that CPPCC members should remain committed to serving the people by advancing initiatives that improve livelihoods and ensure that the benefits of Chinese modernization are shared widely among the population.
Describing the CPPCC as the most inclusive patriotic united front organisation, Wang said it should continue strengthening national unity among people of all ethnic groups and foster greater solidarity among Chinese citizens both at home and abroad.
Looking ahead, he called on political advisors to unite more closely around the Communist Party of China Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core and work collectively to advance the building of a modern socialist country.
