PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has implemented new regulations governing the promotion process for provincial civil servants, aiming to enhance transparency, organization, and merit in the advancement of government employees.
According to a notification issued by the administration department on Monday, the 'Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Civil Servants Promotion Rules, 2026' have received approval from the chief minister and have been enforced with immediate effect.
Under the revised framework, two provincial selection boards have been established to oversee the promotion process. The senior selection board will be chaired by the chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and will handle promotion cases for officers eligible for higher grades. The second board, led by the additional chief secretary (general), will be responsible for preparing recommendations concerning the promotion of officials in middle grades.
Additionally, the new rules call for the formation of departmental promotion committees at various levels to further streamline the process. The government has also introduced mandatory training courses as a prerequisite for higher-grade promotions, aiming to ensure that officers are adequately prepared for their new roles.
The KP administration stated that these measures are intended to make the promotion process more organized, transparent, and based on merit, reflecting the government's commitment to good governance and professional development within the provincial bureaucracy.
