Senate Postpones Agenda to Address Regional Developments, Condemns Attack on Iran
The Senate deferred its agenda to discuss the regional situation after Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in a reported US-Israel strike. Lawmakers offered fateha and condemned the attack, calling for stability and adherence to international law.

The Senate of Pakistan on Monday postponed its scheduled private members’ day agenda to focus on discussions regarding the evolving regional situation.
Senate Observes Fateha for Iran’s Supreme Leader
At the beginning of the session, members of the House offered fateha for the departed soul of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei. Reports indicate that Ayatollah Khamenei was martyred in a joint US-Israel strike on Tehran the previous day.
Opposition Leader Strongly Condemns Attack
Taking the floor, Leader of the Opposition Raja Nasir Abbas expressed strong condemnation of the US and Israeli attack on Iran, which resulted in the death of Ayatollah Khamenei. He highlighted that the incident occurred days after Iran had declared it would not pursue the development of nuclear weapons.
Senator Abbas further regretted that the joint air strikes took place shortly before another round of US-Iran nuclear talks was scheduled. He criticized US President Donald Trump for actions he described as violations of international law and for undermining the relevance of global forums such as the United Nations. Abbas stated that such actions were contributing to instability worldwide.
"The assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei is condemned," Senator Abbas said, familiar with the proceedings.
Senate Focuses on Regional Stability
The Senate’s decision to defer its regular agenda underscores the gravity with which lawmakers are viewing the current regional developments. Members emphasized the importance of stability and adherence to international norms in the wake of recent events.
Further discussions on the regional situation are expected as the Senate continues to monitor developments closely.
