KARACHI: CCTV footage has surfaced showing a woman being shot inside an ATM booth in the Papoosh area of Karachi, allegedly by a security guard who had asked her to meet him there.
According to investigators, the suspect persuaded the woman to come to the ATM on the pretext of handing over money. The footage shows her approaching and entering the booth, where an argument reportedly erupted moments after she opened the door.
Police said the guard, who was already inside, allegedly opened fire during the confrontation. The suspect has since been taken into custody.
In his initial statement to investigators, the accused claimed that he had been in a relationship with the woman and alleged that she was blackmailing him over a video. He further stated that she had previously borrowed Rs50,000 from him and was demanding additional money.
Authorities said the suspect admitted to luring her to the ATM by promising to give her cash. As soon as she entered the booth, he allegedly shot her.
Despite being wounded, the woman attempted to escape, but the gunman reportedly fired two more shots at her from behind. She was first transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later shifted to Civil Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Police said further investigation is under way.
