LAHORE: The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 across the province from June 27 to July 6, 2025, as part of security measures ahead of the month of Muharram-ul-Haram.

The decision was made in response to security concerns and aims to ensure peace and religious harmony during the period of observance.

The provincial government has issued a notification stating that only pre-approved religious processions and gatherings (majalis) will be allowed during the first 10 days of Muharram. Any alterations or new events to be held during this period will require prior authorization from the relevant authorities.

The order also prohibits the display of weapons and flammable materials in public spaces without official approval. In addition, the government has banned any provocative statements, gestures, or slogans that could incite sectarian or communal tensions.

Authorities have warned that individuals found violating these restrictions, particularly through media or social platforms, will face legal consequences under the provisions of Section 144. The province has also banned pillion riding, with exemptions granted only to women, senior citizens, and law enforcement officials.

Punjab authorities stressed the importance of ensuring peace and security, particularly during religious observances, and are coordinating efforts with local law enforcement to maintain public order throughout the Muharram period.
