LAHORE: Mohammad Nawaz’s brilliant five-wicket haul, backed by a collective bowling performance, powered Pakistan to a 111-run victory over Australia, completing a commanding 3-0 T20I series sweep at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
The emphatic win serves as a strong finale for both sides ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Chasing a daunting 208-run target, Australia’s batting line-up crumbled under Nawaz-led pressure, being bowled out for 96 in 16.5 overs. Veteran all-rounder Marcus Stoinis top-scored for the visitors with 23 off 22 balls, followed by Cameron Green (22 off 24), while only wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe (14) managed to reach double figures.

Nawaz spearheaded Pakistan’s attack with sensational figures of 5/18 in four overs, supported by Shaheen Shah Afridi (2 wickets), while Abrar Ahmed and Naseem Shah picked up one wicket each.
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha’s decision to bat first paid off as his side posted a challenging 207/6 in 20 overs. The Green Shirts, however, stumbled early in their run chase, losing opener Sahibzada Farhan (10) in the second over with just 14 runs on the board.

Agha, sent in at No.3, failed to deliver in the final fixture, falling for five off three balls to Ben Dwarshuis, leaving the score at 34/2 in 3.4 overs. Experienced batter Babar Azam then joined Saim Ayub, and the duo steadied the innings with a 69-run stand for the third wicket.
Saim top-scored with 56 off 37 deliveries, featuring six fours and two sixes, before being dismissed by Matthew Kuhnemann, courtesy of a sharp catch by Matthew Renshaw in the deep.
Babar then shared a 28-run partnership with Khawaja Nafay, dominated by the youngster’s quickfire 21 off 12 balls, including two sixes and a four. With Pakistan at 131/4 in 14 overs, all-rounder Shadab Khan’s swashbuckling 46 off 19 balls swung the momentum decisively. His innings, including five sixes and two fours, featured a 57-run stand with Babar, who remained unbeaten on 50 off 36 deliveries, hitting three fours and a six.
