KARACHI: A video showing a heated roadside confrontation between a lifter driver and a car passenger outside a private shopping mall in Karachi has gone viral, raising fresh concerns about public safety in the city.
According to police, the altercation began when the car allegedly failed to give way to the lifter. The situation quickly escalated during the exchange, with the passenger reportedly pulling out a pistol and threatening the driver. The entire incident was recorded and widely shared on social media.
Police said the individual seen in the video identified himself as Khushhal Durani and claimed to be the nephew of the late Pakistan Peoples Party leader Agha Siraj Khan-Durrani. An FIR has been registered, naming the lifter driver as the complainant, and authorities have launched an investigation into the suspect’s actions, including the display of a weapon.
The footage has drawn significant attention online, with many viewers expressing alarm over the ease with which firearms appear in everyday disputes on Karachi’s roads.
Separately, police have arrested a man filmed engaging in an obscene act inside a car near the gate of the University of Karachi. Officials identified the suspect as Mohiuddin Ali and said a case was registered against him at Mobina Town Police Station.
Police stated that the incident occurred on January 1, when women present at the scene recorded the act, leading to the video’s circulation on social media and widespread public outrage. Following its spread, law enforcement launched an operation and arrested the suspect.
In his statement to police, Mohiuddin Ali reportedly expressed regret over his actions, saying he was ashamed and would not repeat such behaviour. The incident has further intensified concerns over public decency and safety in areas surrounding educational institutions in Karachi.
