BEIJING: China’s pursuit of high-quality development through high-level opening-up will create broader opportunities for cooperation with Brazil, President Xi Jinping said on Friday during a phone call with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Xi recalled that in 2024, the two leaders jointly announced the elevation of China-Brazil relations to a community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet. Over the past year, he said, this partnership has gained strong momentum, marked by closer alignment of development strategies and setting an example of solidarity and cooperation among Global South countries.
Noting that China has entered the period of its 15th Five-Year Plan, Xi said Beijing is ready to work with Brazil to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation across a wide range of fields and promote higher-quality growth in bilateral relations.
Against a backdrop of global turbulence, Xi said China and Brazil, as major Global South countries, are playing a constructive role in safeguarding international peace and stability and improving global governance. He urged both sides to stand firmly on the right side of history, protect the shared interests of the Global South, uphold the central role of the United Nations, and defend international fairness and justice.
Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to being a long-term friend and partner of Latin American and Caribbean countries and to advancing the building of a China–LAC community with a shared future.
