Naqvi sets up committee to address issues of religious scholars

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday constituted a committee headed by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry to address issues faced by Islamic religious scholars across the country.

The decision was taken during a meeting between Interior Minister Naqvi and a delegation of ulema led by Mufti-e-Azam Pakistan Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman. During the meeting, the interior minister assured the delegation that concrete and practical steps would be taken to resolve the issues raised by religious scholars.

Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman and other ulema for their role in promoting peace, stability and harmony in the country. He said the challenges being faced by religious scholars would be reviewed in detail and addressed through actionable measures.

Under the committee formed by the interior ministry, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman and other prominent religious scholars will serve as members. The committee has been tasked with formulating workable recommendations and submitting proposals aimed at resolving the concerns highlighted by the ulema.

Addressing the delegation, Naqvi said Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman played a unifying role in society and was respected across all segments. He said unity, harmony and national solidarity were essential, stressing that Pakistan must always come first.

The interior minister added that Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman had consistently spoken in favour of unity, consensus and cohesion, and enjoyed respect across religious and political divides.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said the services rendered by religious scholars for Pakistan were highly commendable.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman offered prayers for the integrity, progress, stability and prosperity of the country.

The delegation included Allama Liaquat Hussain Azhari, Mufti Abid Mubarak Madani and Malik Muhammad Ibrahim. Federal Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi and other officials were also present.
