Govt seeks Ulema’s support for maintaining harmony during Muharram

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry held a key meeting on Thursday with leading religious scholars from across the country to discuss strategies for maintaining peace and harmony during Muharram, particularly on Ashura.

The meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, included scholars from various schools of thought. Senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, FIA, Islamabad Police, and other law enforcement agencies also participated.

Naqvi highlighted the vital role of religious scholars in preserving peace during sensitive periods. He emphasized that their contributions were as significant as those of security forces and that their ongoing communication with the administration had helped resolve numerous issues before they could escalate. He noted that religious scholars had successfully defused many delicate situations through their wisdom and efforts.

The minister urged mutual respect among different sects and reinforced the principle, “We should neither abandon our own sect nor attack others,” stressing its importance in fostering unity. He also pointed out that Imam Hussain (A.S.) is revered by all Muslims, underscoring the shared spiritual connection among all believers.
