ISLAMABAD: A court has declared Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and five provincial lawmakers proclaimed offenders in terrorism-related cases after their continued failure to appear before it, officials said on Wednesday.
Judicial proclamations issued on court orders named CM Afridi along with MPAs Mina Khan, Amjad Ali, Shafiullah Jan and Iqbal Afridi. According to the notices, the individuals are absconding accused in two cases registered by the Counter Terrorism Department.
The court has directed all five to present themselves within 30 days, warning that non-compliance would invite further legal consequences under criminal procedure laws.
Officials familiar with the proceedings said the action followed an order passed by an anti-terrorism court on December 4, after repeated non-appearance by the accused. Acting on the directive, Islamabad police published public notices to formally notify them of the proclamations.
The court orders state that if the accused fail to appear within the stipulated timeframe, stricter measures may be taken, including attachment of property and additional punitive action.
Authorities said the cases remain under adjudication and that law enforcement agencies will proceed strictly in line with court instructions. Further developments are expected once the appearance deadline expires.
