ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in the capital has handed down two death sentences to the man convicted of murdering former Attorney General Sardar Muhammad Khan, concluding a case that lingered for fifteen years.
The judgment, announced on Friday by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, found Roohullah guilty on both murder and terrorism charges. The court also imposed Rs500,000 as compensation and an additional Rs500,000 in fines.
The prosecution, led by Raja Naveed, maintained that Roohullah had shot and killed the former attorney general in Islamabad’s F-10 area in 2010. Naveed told the court that the weapon used in the attack was later recovered from the convict and that Roohullah had previously escaped from police custody in 2013.
Co-accused Waqif Khan was acquitted after the court found insufficient evidence to link him to the crime.
With Friday’s verdict, one of the capital’s long-pending murder cases has formally reached its conclusion.
