Workshop owner in Lahore accused of setting 12-year-old child worker on fire

LAHORE: A workshop owner in Lahore’s Gulberg Model Colony has been accused of setting a 12-year-old child laborer on fire. The boy, identified as Faizan, suffered severe burn injuries and was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to police, an initial investigation revealed that petrol from a vehicle’s carburetor had spilled onto Faizan’s clothes. Upon discovering this, the suspect, Babar, allegedly threw a lit matchstick at the boy, igniting the fuel and setting him ablaze.

A case has been registered against Babar based on the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Shah Muhammad. The accused has been arrested, and Gulberg Police confirmed that further investigations into the disturbing incident are ongoing.

This incident follows a similar case earlier in October, when a landowner in Sheikhupura threw a young boy into a burning brick kiln after the child requested a piece of corn. The boy suffered critical burn injuries and was taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment. The child’s mother, whose family survives by begging, said the landowner showed no compassion. Police have launched an investigation and are working to apprehend the suspect responsible for the brutal attack.
