LAHORE: Haroon Sharif Jewellers clinched the Lahore Smart City Polo in Pink Cup title after defeating Team Rijas/Din 8-5 in an exciting final at the Lahore Polo Club.
A large crowd turned up to enjoy the grand final festivities. The event began with a children’s cavalcade, followed by an entertaining barrel race, tent pegging contests, a thrilling motorcycle display, and a showcase of vintage cars.
Vice Chairman of Lahore Smart City, Jahanzeb Zahid, graced the final as chief guest, while guests of honour included the British Ambassador Jane Marriott and Irish Ambassador Mary O’Neill, along with Capital Smart Motors’ Zeeshan Qureshi, club members, players, CEO Haroon Sharif and others.
In the final match, Hamza Mawaz Khan produced a stellar performance for Haroon Sharif Jewellers, scoring six impressive goals. Teammates Sheikh Muhammad Farhad and Abbas Mukhtar contributed one goal each. For Rijas/Deen, Sheikh Muhammad Rafay scored three goals while Raja Samiullah added two.
During the prize distribution ceremony, special awards were presented to 12 international and four Pakistani players. Sheikh Muhammad Tayyab’s mare Iris, ridden by Hamza Mawaz Khan, was named Best Horse of the Match, while Pakistan’s Mahnum Faisal received the Best Woman Player award.
Winning team’s star player, Hamza Mawaz Khan, expressed his gratitude to Haroon Sharif Jewellers for their unwavering support throughout the week. Abbas Mukhtar said he was delighted that the team’s hard work paid off and that they managed to win both Pink tournaments this year.
Mahnum Faisal said that she has been playing polo for the past few years and securing victory this year felt especially rewarding. She added that more events should be organized to encourage greater participation of women in polo.
Club President Malik Azam Hayat Noon thanked Lahore Smart City for their consistent support and acknowledged Pink Ribbon Pakistan’s Omar Aftab and his team for their collaboration. He also lauded the media for their huge presence and also applauded the passionate Lahorites, who came in huge numbers to witness the enthralling final at the historic Lahore Polo Club.
