KASUR: Police in Kasur’s tehsil Pattoki have arrested a man for playing a song by the legendary Noor Jahan at high volume.
The incident occurred in the Habibabad area, where the man was caught listening to the song on a loudspeaker. Along with his arrest, the police also confiscated his amplifier and speaker.
An FIR has been registered under the Loudspeaker Act, and a video showing the man listening to the song has also surfaced online.
Earlier, the Punjab government had ordered strict enforcement of the Loudspeaker Act and established whistle-blower cells in every district to encourage the reporting of suspicious activity.
The Loudspeaker Act, 2015, was introduced to curb public and environmental disturbances caused by excessive noise, particularly from sound systems that can disturb the peace or endanger public safety. The law specifically prohibits the use of loudspeakers in a way that could cause annoyance or injury to those nearby, including in sensitive areas such as educational institutions, hospitals, and offices during working hours.
Under the law, the use of sound systems that generate unnecessary noise or disturb the comfort and peace of the public is strictly regulated.
