Rickshaw driver faces charges for playing Naseebo Lal’s song in Punjab

OKARA: A rickshaw driver has been booked by the police for playing a song by renowned Pakistani singer Naseebo Lal on Thursday.

The case was registered under the Punjab Sound System Act, with authorities confirming that no violations would be tolerated. A spokesperson for Okara police emphasized that strict action would be taken against any offenders.

This incident follows a similar case last month in Lahore, where a man was also booked for playing Noor Jehan’s song loudly in his car.

The Punjab Sound System Act, established in 2015, regulates the use of sound systems in the province. Its primary goal is to prevent public disturbances and maintain order by controlling the use of loudspeakers and sound systems. Offenders can face penalties including fines and imprisonment. The law allows authorities to seize sound equipment used in offenses, and violators may face up to six months in jail, alongside fines ranging from 25,000 to 100,000 rupees.
