LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore on Friday quashed a 2020 case against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and several other Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders over an alleged attack on the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office.
ATC Judge Arshad Javed announced the decision after police submitted a report stating that the allegations of stone-pelting during Maryam Nawaz’s appearance at the NAB office could not be substantiated.
The court accepted a plea from Deputy Prosecutor Abdul Jabbar Dogar seeking dismissal of the case, ruling that no evidence was found to justify a trial. Police witnesses and investigators recorded their statements before the court confirmed the quashing of the case.
The case was originally registered at Lahore’s Chuhng Police Station on the complaint of NAB Deputy Director Muhammad Asghar, following an incident in August 2020 when Maryam had appeared before NAB in the Raiwind land case.
Several senior PML-N figures, including Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, Captain (Retired) Safdar Awan, Daniyal Aziz, Pervaiz Rashid, and Bilal Yasin, were also named in the case.
