ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad on Friday dismissed the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) plea for trial against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz in the Avenfield properties reference.
PML-N vice president appeared before the court over the use of a bogus trust deed in the said case.
The court issued summons for Maryam on July 9 after the corruption watchdog moved an application before accountability judge Mohammad Bashir.
Earlier in the day, a large number of PML-N supporters gathered in Islamabad to welcome the PML-N vice president. A number of PML-N workers were also arrested by the police for protesting outside the accountability court.
In an informal media talk outside the court, Maryam said that “those who had paralysed the capital for 126 days should be ashamed of such acts [of arresting PML-N workers]”.
PML-N stalwarts Ahsan Iqbal and Murtaza Javed Abbasi were also stopped at the checkpoint and kept from entering the accountability court premises.
Meanwhile, Maryam, before the hearing commenced, claimed that she and her father Nawaz Sharif have been “contacted on several occasion to hold negotiations”.
“I and Mian Sahab cannot fulfil the accessories,” she declared.
