China blasts Dutch interference in semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia

BEIJING: China’s Ministry of Commerce on Thursday slammed the Netherlands for interfering in the operations of semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia, an overseas subsidiary of Chinese company Wingtech, saying the Dutch side has violated market principles.

“China firmly opposes the Dutch side’s overstretching of the national security concept and direct intervention in the company’s internal affairs,” said He Yongqian, spokesperson for the ministry.

These comments came after the China Semiconductor Industry Association issued a statement voicing opposition to the Dutch government’s intervention in Nexperia.

The spokesperson said the Dutch move has violated the spirit of contract and market principles, which will ultimately backfire and damage the Netherlands’ own business environment.

China hopes the Netherlands will uphold independence and autonomy, bear in mind the importance of Sino-Dutch economic relations and the stability of the global semiconductor supply chain, correct wrong practices, and effectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese investors to foster a fair, transparent and predictable business environment, she said.

China will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the lawful rights and interests of Chinese enterprises, the spokesperson added.
