Punjab Police, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), have recovered millions of rupees in cash, gold, and foreign currency from the residence of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Saad Rizvi. The raid, conducted on Tuesday, uncovered a total of Rs144.4 million in Pakistani currency, along with jewellery valued at over Rs63.4 million.
Authorities reported the seizure of 1,922 grams of gold, including rings, bracelets, chains, and other items, along with 898 grams of silver and luxury watches. Additionally, foreign currency worth more than Rs2.5 million was confiscated, including Indian rupees, pounds, Canadian dollars, Saudi riyals, and UAE dirhams.
The operation was part of a wider investigation into financial irregularities and undeclared assets, though officials have not disclosed specific charges. Sources suggest the recovered assets are tied to TLP’s finances, with the group claiming that the money and valuables were collected as donations from supporters abroad.
The raid came amid increasing pressure on TLP following protests in Lahore and other Punjab cities. The TLP had organized a ‘Gaza March’ to express solidarity with Palestine, defying a Section 144 ban imposed by the Punjab government. After failed negotiations, law enforcement launched a pre-dawn operation in Muridke to disperse violent protesters.
Following the operation, which resulted in several deaths and injuries, a case was filed against TLP leadership and workers under terrorism charges. Protests erupted in other parts of the country, including Karachi, though the intensity of the demonstrations decreased by late Monday.
