Neglecting our pride

Hockey, once the pride of Pakistan, is now facing serious challenges. If we look at the records, the downfall of Pakistan’s hockey team began after 1994. Since then, the team has failed to reach the final stages of major tournaments like the World Cup. Most of the time, our team does not even qualify for the finals.

This decline is largely due to a lack of proper support, funding and facilities. There are not enough hockey grounds, especially in cities like Chaman. In addition, public interest has shifted towards cricket, and unfortunately, so has government focus and investment.

Our hockey players are not being provided with adequate salaries or quality equipment which affects their performance and morale. It is the government’s responsibility to revive this sport by addressing these issues and investing in its development.

The national game of any country deserves respect and attention. Pakistan must take immediate steps to bring back the glory of hockey by motivating players and providing the necessary resources.
