Barrister Saif slams Punjab CM’s opportunism on Swat incident as Opposition demands KP CM’s resignation

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Adviser on Information, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, has strongly criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for politicising the recent Swat incident, urging the provincial leadership to focus on genuine relief efforts rather than using sensitive matters for political advantage.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad on Sunday, Barrister Saif accused the Punjab leadership of “opportunistic politics” in the aftermath of natural calamities, specifically in the case of the tragic incident in Swat. He pointed out that instead of focusing on relief, the issue was being exploited for political mileage. Saif stated that such actions were inappropriate and should not interfere with the true efforts to support the affected areas.

He added that a committee had been formed to investigate the Swat incident, emphasizing that investigations had already begun.

Barrister Saif also addressed the political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, asserting that the issue surrounding reserved seats posed no threat to the PTI-led provincial government. “Our government remains stable and fully functional,” he declared.

Further, he expressed serious concerns regarding the erosion of the rule of law in Pakistan, stating, “The Constitution and law have become meaningless in today’s Pakistan.”

Regarding security concerns, Barrister Saif condemned the recent attack on security forces in North Waziristan, calling it deeply concerning. He reaffirmed that both the provincial and federal governments were coordinating efforts to ensure peace and stability across the country.

KP CM’s resignation over Swat tragedy demanded

Meanwhile, the leader of the opposition in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Ibadullah Khan, has demanded the resignation of CM Ali Amin Gandapur over the Swat tragedy. The opposition leader accused Gandapur of showing a callous attitude towards the incident, further criticizing the provincial government’s handling of the matter.

Khan called for an urgent session of the provincial assembly to address the issue and demanded that an FIR be filed against CM Gandapur. He argued that transferring district officials, such as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) or Assistant Commissioner (AC), could not compensate for the loss caused by the tragedy.
