Fazl calls on govt to withdraw Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination

  • JUI-F chief reiterates his party’s support for Iran, warning against attempts to detach religion from politics in Pakistan

MURREE: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), has strongly condemned the government’s decision to recommend US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, calling it a direct insult to the victims of US-led wars across the Middle East.

Speaking at the JUI-F Punjab General Council meeting in Phagwari, Murree, Fazl criticized both past and current governments for disregarding religious seminaries, asserting that the independence of these institutions will be fiercely protected by his party.

He raised concerns over the government’s support for Trump, whose actions, he argued, have led to the suffering and death of Palestinians, Iraqis, and Afghans. Fazl specifically pointed out Trump’s military actions in Iran, which he claimed violated both national and international laws. He questioned whether Pakistan should support Israel in light of these actions, urging the government to reconsider its stance.

Fazl reiterated his party’s support for Iran and warned against any attempts to detach religion from politics in Pakistan. He emphasized that JUI-F is the largest public force in the country, and trying to suppress it would be tantamount to blocking the will of the people.

The JUI-F leader also condemned what he described as “un-Islamic and unconstitutional legislation” being introduced in the country, urging that any international relations, including those with the U.S., must respect Pakistan’s sovereignty and economic independence.

He shared details of recent interactions with a U.S. delegation, noting that they had visited him three times in the past three months. Fazl also remarked that India’s political leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed, and Pakistan’s unity during the last conflict left Modi isolated.

Fazl concluded by encouraging his party members to focus on both national and international issues and work to spread JUI-F’s message of public service across society.
