JI criticizes govt for Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize recommendation, calls it diplomatic blunder

MULTAN: Deputy Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, Liaqat Baloch, has strongly criticised the federal government and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for recommending U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, calling it a “blunder.”

Baloch, in a statement, expressed his disapproval, stating that the move reflected poor judgment in Pakistan’s foreign policy.

He pointed out that the meeting between Pakistan’s Army Chief and Trump was “mistimed” and sending the wrong diplomatic signals. “Past international diplomatic mistakes are already written on the wall,” Baloch added, highlighting the potential long-term negative consequences of such actions.

In addition to his criticism of the Nobel Prize nomination, Baloch also lashed out at the government for presenting the national budget in parliament, claiming it was dictated by the IMF’s harsh conditions.

He labelled the budgetary measures as a futile exercise and stressed that more substantial actions were needed for the country’s agricultural sector to thrive. “To truly support agriculture, electricity, gas, and fuel prices must be reduced,” he emphasized.

Baloch also warned that Pakistan’s escalating political crisis posed new threats and could exacerbate instability if not managed with responsibility. He stressed the importance of addressing the country’s political challenges in a timely and thoughtful manner to avoid further destabilization.
