Pakistan urges UNSC to stop Israeli aggression, supports Iran’s right to self-defense

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called on the UN Security Council to immediately halt Israel’s “unjustified and illegitimate aggression” against Iran. The appeal was made during an emergency session convened after Israel’s deadly air strikes against Iranian targets, with Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, condemning Israel’s actions and urging accountability.

Addressing the 15-member Council, Ambassador Ahmad stated, “This Council must deny Israel the free hand and the impunity with which it continues to operate in defiance of international law and international opinion.” He emphasized that Iran has the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter, and pointed out that Israel’s military actions in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen exemplify a continued pattern of unilateral militarism.

The Council’s members broadly agreed on the need for de-escalation and diplomatic efforts to prevent further instability in the already volatile region. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who requested the Security Council meeting, expressed concerns over Israel’s actions, calling for punishment of the crimes committed. Pakistan, along with China and Russia, supported the request for the urgent meeting, highlighting the growing tensions in the region.
