SRINAGAR: The administration led by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has transferred dozens of Kashmiri political prisoners from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to various jails across India, according to local reports.
Kashmir Media Service reported that many political detainees, primarily Hurriyat activists, were moved from Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu, Poonch district jail, and Srinagar Central Jail to prisons in BJP-ruled states including Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Hundreds of Kashmiri prisoners, including leaders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), remain detained in facilities such as Tihar Jail in New Delhi, Agra Central Jail, Naini Jail in Uttar Pradesh, Rohtak and Karnal jails in Haryana, as well as prisons in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas condemned the transfers as a tactic to victimize Kashmiris by moving them hundreds of miles away from home. He described the actions as punishment for those opposing political injustices, atrocities, and India’s occupation of Kashmir.
Minhas said these measures will not weaken the Kashmiris’ determination for freedom, affirming their continued struggle until success.
Many of the detainees have been charged under stringent laws including the Public Safety Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
