Robber lynched, two others caught after encounters in Karachi

KARACHI: A suspected robber was beaten to death by a mob, two others were arrested in separate police encounters, while a citizen was shot dead and three others were injured in a series of violent incidents reported across the city on Sunday.

According to police, a suspected robber, identified as 25-year-old Jalat, was caught and lynched by residents near Qaddafi Chowk in Orangi Town. A weapon was recovered from his possession. His body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities.

In another incident, police said an encounter in Gulshan-e-Noor led to the arrest of two robbers. One suspect, Ameer Hamza, sustained injuries during the shootout and was shifted to a nearby hospital. Two pistols and other equipment were seized from the scene.

Separately, a man identified as Khalil Rehman, 40, was gunned down in Yousuf Goth, reportedly over a personal dispute. His body was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi. Police have launched an investigation into the targeted killing.

In Jamali Goth’s Street No. 7, a man named Salman, 35, was shot and injured by an unidentified attacker. He was moved to ASH for treatment. No immediate motive was known.

A similar shooting was reported in Umer Goth, Manghopir, near Achanak Hotel, where a 25-year-old man named Rashid was injured by unknown assailants. He was also transported to ASH. Police said efforts were underway to trace the attackers and determine the cause behind the assault.

Meanwhile, in Faqeer Colony of Orangi Town, a 32-year-old woman, Erum, was struck by a stray bullet near Gulzar-e-Madina Masjid. She was rushed to ASH. Authorities are investigating the source of the stray fire.

Police said separate cases have been registered in each incident, and further inquiries are ongoing.
