US and Saudi Arabia work together to ease tensions between India and Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: As tensions escalated between India and Pakistan, with India sending Israeli-made drones into Pakistani cities, both international and regional powers have stepped in to prevent a broader conflict. The United States and Saudi Arabia have emerged as key mediators, urging both countries to de-escalate the situation.

On Thursday, Saudi Arabia sent Deputy Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir to New Delhi, while US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Their efforts aim to bring the nuclear-armed neighbors back to dialogue and avoid further escalation.

Pakistan, according to diplomatic sources, has blamed India for the current crisis, particularly over the missile strikes that targeted civilian areas. Pakistan has also raised concerns about India’s efforts to bypass the Indus Waters Treaty under the pretext of the Pahalgam attack. Despite these tensions, both the US and Saudi Arabia have been pushing for direct talks between Pakistan and India.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister reiterated the country’s resolve to defend its sovereignty, while US and Saudi officials called for restraint and dialogue. Both sides have agreed to maintain communication, with the National Security Advisors of Pakistan and India already in contact to address the situation.
