ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly has expressed strong support for Pakistan’s military response to India’s recent aggressive actions, with lawmakers from various political parties rallying behind the armed forces. The response follows India’s unprovoked cross-border attack on May 7, which resulted in the death of 31 civilians. In retaliation, Pakistan downed five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, and intercepted dozens of drones.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif praised the military’s response, highlighting the significant achievements in downing five Indian jets and intercepting drones aimed at gathering intelligence. He also emphasized the strategic support from international allies, including China, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, during this period of heightened tension.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser reaffirmed national unity, despite political differences, and called for a focus on national security over political persecution. He also criticized the government’s use of military courts for civilian trials and condemned the ongoing crackdown on PTI workers.
JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced the party’s plans to observe Defence Day and mobilize support through planned Million March events in Peshawar and Quetta. He also criticized India’s actions and affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty.
Federal Minister Rana Tanveer condemned India’s aggression, accusing the country of fabricating justifications for its attacks and aligning itself with Israel. He praised the Pakistan Air Force for successfully downing the Rafale fighter jet and emphasized Pakistan’s military superiority.
As tensions rise, the National Assembly’s unanimous support for the armed forces signals a unified front in the face of India’s provocations.
