Hajj flight delays continue amid operational disruption, over 3,000 pilgrims affected

SLAMABAD: Flight operations for Hajj pilgrims have faced significant disruptions, with multiple cancellations and delays reported between May 7 and 9 due to the periodic closure of airports, the Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed on Friday.

According to the Ministry, a total of 13 Hajj flights were affected, including four cancellations and nine delays across Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, Multan, and Karachi.

Two Saudi Airlines flights from Islamabad and Lahore were among the cancellations. Delays were reported for three flights from Lahore, two from Islamabad, and one each from Quetta, Multan, and Karachi.

The disruptions impacted the travel plans of over 3,000 Hajj pilgrims. While most of the delayed flights eventually departed after several hours, 345 pilgrims left behind due to cancellations were transported from Islamabad on a special PIA flight arranged by authorities.

An additional 540 pilgrims are scheduled to be flown out on special flights from Islamabad and Lahore in the coming hours.

To assist affected passengers, the Ministry has launched a dedicated helpline (051-9216980) offering real-time updates on flight schedules. Pilgrims are also encouraged to stay in contact with their local Hajj camps for further guidance.
