Unshakable friendship: China lauds 74 years of Pakistan ties

BEIJING: China’s Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party, Sun Haiyan, reaffirmed the unshakable nature of Pakistan-China relations during a photo exhibition hosted by the Pakistan Embassy in Beijing.

The event marked 74 years of diplomatic ties and a decade since President Xi Jinping’s historic 2015 visit to Pakistan.

The exhibition, titled around the theme of “Iron Brotherhood,” showcased powerful images that captured milestone moments in the two nations’ bilateral journey—from President Xi’s aircraft being escorted by the Pakistan Air Force, to Pakistan International Airlines becoming the first non-communist airline to land in China in 1964.

In his keynote address, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi called the exhibition “a living testament to the constancy of a friendship that has withstood the tests of time, transitions, and trials.” Quoting Allama Iqbal, he emphasized that the relationship is not one of convenience, but of deliberate and enduring mutual respect.

Sun Haiyan, the chief guest, praised the depth of people-to-people ties and recalled a poignant anecdote from 2015: an elderly Pakistani man donated land in Gwadar to build a school dedicated to Pakistan-China friendship. “This is going to be a school of Pakistan-China friendship, so it should be contributed by both peoples,” she quoted the man as saying.

Through decades of historic photographs, the exhibition celebrated not just shared memories but a vision for a shared future. Both sides reaffirmed that the “Iron Brotherhood” between Pakistan and China remains resilient, people-driven, and forward-looking.
