KARACHI: The Docks police have arrested two individuals for illegally cutting mangrove trees at a government forest along the seashore, marking the first case of its kind in recent years. The accused, Tariq and Bilal, were apprehended after a Sindh Forest Department employee witnessed them cutting wood and loading it onto a donkey cart.
Around 120 kilograms of the illegally-cut wood were recovered. A case under Section 188 has been filed, and the investigation is ongoing. Mangrove forests, which play a crucial role in reducing marine pollution and protecting coastal areas from stormy waves, are vital for environmental health along Sindh’s coastline.
