RAWALPINDI: The district administration has approved 12 designated sites for sacrificial animal markets in Rawalpindi, set to begin operations from May 28 ahead of Eidul Azha.
Authorities have banned the sale of animals in residential streets and busy roads, warning of fines and confiscations. The markets will be managed by the District Council, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), and Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB), with contractors responsible for facilities and sanitation.
Traders have projected a 30–40% surge in animal prices compared to last year, citing rising transportation costs, utility charges, and expensive fodder. Entry fees are set at Rs2,000 for small animals and Rs3,000 for large animals.
The RCB’s largest market will be set up at Bhatta Chowk, while others will be located in Rawat, Adiala Road, Chakri Road, and various tehsils. Markets under CCB will be placed near Sangit Cinema and behind the LHC Rawalpindi Bench.
Preparations will start by May 15, with early animal arrivals expected the same week. Bulls are currently priced between Rs300,000 and Rs1.5 million, while goats and sheep range from Rs130,000 to Rs300,000.
