Mirwaiz Umar Farooq plans Hurriyat regrouping, aims for peaceful resolution in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Senior leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has announced plans to regroup the Hurriyat Conference and reevaluate strategies to pursue a peaceful resolution to the Kashmir conflict.

Speaking at the launch of a business venture in Srinagar’s Gojwara area, Mirwaiz emphasized the need to address the broader political issues underlying the Kashmir dispute.

He noted the significance of a recent Hurriyat meeting, the first in five years, where several members gathered despite many still being in detention.

The APHC leader emphasized the importance of distinguishing between civic issues—like infrastructure and basic amenities—and the political problem that requires a dialogue-based approach.

Mirwaiz reiterated his belief that meaningful talks are essential for resolving these issues, a point he has frequently made from the pulpit of Jamia Masjid.

He expressed optimism over Hurriyat’s gradual regrouping, reaffirming the APHC’s commitment to a dialogue-focused approach for a lasting solution to the Kashmir dispute.
