Grammy-winning rapper Lil Jon converts to Islam at LA mosque

American DJ and rapper Jonathan H Smith, also known as Lil Jon, has embraced Islam. According to reports from a Turkish newspaper, Lil Jon announced his conversion during the first Friday of Ramadan 2024 at the King Fahad Mosque in Los Angeles, California, in front of a sizable congregation.

A video capturing Smith reciting the shahada in Arabic and English, under the guidance of the imam, circulated on TikTok and other video platforms.

Taking to his Instagram account, which boasts over a million followers, he expressed gratitude to his fans for their support, captioning the post with “Alhamdulillah” and a praying hands emoji. Fans flooded the comments section with congratulations.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1972, Smith rose to fame in the early 2000s, particularly known for his contributions to the music industry with hits like ‘Turn Down for What’, ‘Let’s Go’, ‘Act a Fool’, and ‘Yeah’, the latter earning him a Grammy for Best Rap Collaboration with Usher and Ludacris.
