Clash during recounting of votes takes 2 lives in Balochistan

QUETTA: A tense situation unfolded in Quetta as a clash erupted during the recounting of votes in Balochistan, resulting in the tragic loss of two lives and leaving many others injured. The altercation occurred between two groups during the recounting process in Provincial Assembly Constituency PB-21, located in Hub.

Sources indicate that the clash escalated into gunfire at the Civic Center in Hub, leading to the fatalities of two individuals and leaving thirteen others wounded. Prompt response from law enforcement agencies saw teams arriving swiftly at the scene to secure evidence and assess the situation. The deceased and injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

Media reports reveal that the police have detained three individuals suspected of involvement in the firing, with investigations currently underway.

The incident comes amidst ongoing protests by political parties across the province, denouncing alleged electoral rigging during the general elections. Demonstrations, including sit-ins outside government offices and blockades on national highways, underscore the escalating tensions in the region. Yesterday, a province-wide shutter-down strike further amplified the unrest, highlighting the urgency for resolution and calm in the wake of the tragic clash.
