India becomes worst place for women as two more women beaten, paraded naked in West Bengal

KOLKATA: After Manipur, another video has emerged on social media platforms now from Malda district of the Indian state of West Bengal showing two women being beaten and paraded naked.

The incident occurred three to four days ago. Local people in Pakuahat village in Malda district had caught the two women on suspicion of theft and thrashed them.

A video of the incident has gone viral showing several women assaulting the two accused women and parading them half-naked. However, no complaint of the incident was lodged with the West Bengal Police. The police claimed that they became aware of the incident only after the video came to their attention.

The West Bengal Police said, “The incident happened in Pakuhat area in Malda 3 to 4 days back. Two women were caught in suspicion of theft by local traders. Both women were thrashed by the local female traders. Later both women left or escaped from the area and did not lodge any police complaints. Traders also did not file any complaint in this regard.”

It is to mention here that earlier, a video of a similar incident had emerged on social media. Two women were stripped naked and paraded by a mob in a village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur. The FIR of the incident says that an armed mob, nearly a thousand strong, had attacked a village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur and torched, looted houses, killed and raped wantonly before abducting two women whose forced naked parade caught on video sent shockwaves.

The incident had occurred in Manipur on May 04, a day after violence broke out in the state following a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status. More than 160 people have died and several injured in the ethnic violence since then.
