PM lauds monetary assistance to Priyantha’s widow

Sialkot business community transferred $ 100,000 to account of the widow

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has lauded Sialkot business community and Rajco industries for providing monetary assistance to the widow of Sri Lankan National Priyantha Kumara who was killed by a violent mob in Sialkot last year.

In a tweet on Tuesday, he pointed out that the business community of Sialkot has transferred $ 100,000 to the account of the widow.

He said Rajco industries is transferring a monthly salary of $2,000 to her account and it will continue to do so for ten years.

Earlier, it was reported that Rajco Industries has sent Rs17.6 million ($100,000) in monetary assistance and the salary for the month of December 2021 to the family of its deceased former general manager.

Rajco Industries has transferred the money from the National Bank’s Sialkot District Court branch to a bank account held by Kumara’s widow.

According to media reports from last month, the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry raised $100,000 to support Kumara’s family.

SCCI President Mian Imran Akbar stated that the organisation is taking appropriate measures to prevent future incidents similar to the one that resulted in Kumara’s lynching. He stated that foreign employees and businessmen will be protected.

“It is our responsibility to provide financial assistance to the affected family of the Sri Lankan citizen,” he added.
